First Fashion Show

Last Friday my fashion class hosted our first fashion show, showing off the clothes we made from our new collections made out of the recycled clothing from the thrift store. We got in teams of 3 or 4 and had to make a mood board to see where we were going with the collections, after that we took a trip to the thrift with a budget of  $150 to get what ever we thought we would need, then we started sketching our clothes and seam ripped a lot of clothes so we could start making the garments.

My team went with a sunset summer vibe because it's about that time of year, we had 4 different looks, one for every designer, one bride look, one men's look and two other women look. Our collection we used a lot of lace, denim, mesh. I think our fashion show was a success, we sold out with over 200 people and I really like how all of our looks were different with a different theme and vibe like one collection was dark and scary another one very flowery and the clothing looking like it's owned by fairies.
After we showed all the group collections we showed off the avant-garde clothes that we made out of these collar shirts that were donated to the class, they were made in under a week so there wasn't one for everyone to model but there were about 9 finished ones and they all looked great, and looked like something just off a high fashion runway they didn't look like student made them.

It's the Second Dirtiest Thing in the World And You’re Wearing It

https://articlesofstyle.com/62475/the-true-cost-of-disposable-clothing/
I just read an article about how designer Eileen Fisher gave a speech about how the fashion industry is the 2nd most damaging industry to our world, right behind the Oil industry. She was self-deprecating and even apologetic when speaking about the ecological impact of clothing, including garments tagged with her own name. Eileen Fisher was in the right by speaking up to people and telling them the facts so they know the true cost, some might say what she did is risky for her business, but I don't think so because she did the right thing and there are so people that will know the truth about something but not speak up and let the problem still happen and more people need to be aware of the fashion industry and the harm it does around this world.

Making A Story With Clothes

A clothing collection should tell a story, it should pretty much match up and all be the same theme even if your theme is inspired by multiple themes. In my teams collection our theme has a Asian sunset vibe we are sticking to, choosing colors like Orange, Yellow, Red, Light Blue & a Light Purple, we choose these colors because they go well together and we don't want our collection looking rainbow so we are staying away from adding ,more colors. For the men's look we are doing a denim jacket, with a dragon embroidery & adding red lining in the inside and denim shorts with lots of distressing on each  and for one of our female's looks we are doing denim with orange and for our third look we will make a very flowing dress since the other two are so structured, but we want to use the same colors so it will match the other looks.

Mood Board

For this new project in my class me and my team made a mood board, a mood board is to get the ideas that your teammates are getting and collaborating on them so the collection you make can feel the same and you stick to the same theme or style the whole time. Creating a mood board for my group helped us get the theme we where looking for, we first decided we want bright colors but not the rainbow, so we got the idea of sunset colors, then we decided we wanted a Asian vibe to it as well, and making this mood board really helped get what one of us was thinking to match it what all of us where thinking.

Trip To The Thrift

Yesterday we went to Savers as a class field trip, we first got a tour of the place and taken to the back of the store to see what it is that they do, and where they get there clothes, and what they do with the clothes that don't get sold in a 4-week period. We went to the store in teams of 5 with 4 people in each team to go thrifting to find clothing & items we can re-use to make our own fashion line with 3 to 4 different looks, each team had $150 to spend at the store to get what every we thought we needed for this project my team spent about $190, a little of it our own money to get everything we wanted for this project we picked a lot of bright colors that match the sun set and we are also going to have a Asian vibe to it as well.

Off-White | Fall Winter 2017/2018

I watched the Off-White Fall Winter show and I picked to watch this show because last month Designer Raf Simmons  said he is not a fan of the brand Off-white & I know Virgil is very inspired by the Belgian Fashion God I wanted to see if he would step up is game, & that he did, that was the best collection I've seen from Virgil Abloh, he started Off-White by himself and it has changed so much over the years turning the brand from streetwear to a high fashion brand influenced by streetwear, but not only did I love most the clothes & how they were put together but the whole theme of the stage with it being in the woods like the forest on a summer night with the lighting if the sun were just going down.

A MUSLIM DESIGNER CAST ONLY IMMIGRANT MODELS

http://fashionista.com/2017/02/anniesa-hasibuan-fall-2017
Many in the fashion industry using the fall 2017 collections as a platform to make political statementsdesigner Anniesa Hasibuan, an Indonesian Muslim, made her own statement last year at her New York Fashion Week debut by sending all her models down the runway wearing hijabs. Hasibuan's headline-making theme from spring 2017 hits an especially powerful note this season in light of the currently blocked travel ban targeting Muslims from seven Muslim-majority countries. The Jakarta-based designer's global take on modest fashion, featuring ornate separates that can also be worn by "Western" women who don't adhere to a conservative dress code. Fashion designers making political or social statements through their clothing shouldn't always be done, in my opinion they are clothes just to wear and to look good and be cozy everything does not need to be politics.

Balenciaga Fall 2017 Show: Flushin’ Ridiculous

The

Balenciaga Fall 2017 Show:

The 2017 fall show for Balenciaga, had some very beautiful dresses and looks, there were a lot of different types of patters on most of the clothing & many floral designs that gives it the perfect look for the spring & fall seasons. Most the trends seen in this season's collection include buttons & zippers off to the left near the shoulder, instead of dead center of the garments & a lot of the looks had things tucked in, almost everything has a classic look to it with the patterns and looks but with a twist to it.

Worry or Don't Care ?

Do You Worry Colleges or Employers Might Read Your Social Media Posts Someday?

The truth is many people post stuff on social media & sometimes people post too much on social plate forms that give way just too much information, and the more we advance in technology and social media the more we get comfortable with it and start posting stuff we shouldn't and most this stuff is public and people like our bosses or teachers can see these things and it could effect you in a negative way, but i'm not worried if  my employer or college doesn't like what I put on my social media, if they don't like it I wouldn't want to be part of there business, i'm going to keep doing me and living the life I wanna live, i'm not switching up for anybody, I know the life I want to live & how i'm going to get there, you can settle for a regular life if you want to, that's you.

History Of The Zipper

I just read an article that the man that invented the zipper originally named it the Clasp Locker back in 1851, Whitcomb got credit for being the "Inventor of the Zipper, The Chicago inventor's "Clasp Locker" was a complicated hook-and-eye shoe fastener. Together with businessman Colonel Lewis Walker, Whitcomb launched the Universal Fastener Company to manufacture the new device. The clasp locker debuted at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair and was met with little commercial success.
http://www.madeeveryday.com/2015/12/sewing-gifting-favorite-zipper-pouches.html/
t was a Swedish-born electrical engineer named Gideon Sundback whose work helped make the zipper the hit it is today. Originally hired to work for the Universal Fastener Company, his design skills and a marriage to the plant-manager's daughter Elvira Aronson led to a position as head designer at Universal. In his position, he improved the far from perfect "Judson C-curity Fastener." And when Sundback's wife died in 1911, the grieving husband busied himself at the design table and by December of 1913, came up with what would become the modern zipper and now todays zippers are everywhere from, jackets to bags to jeans.

Oscars 2017

My Favorite look of the 2017 oscar's was Halle Berry, dressed in Atelier Versace Couture and Forever mark Diamonds shining and i love the color of the dress with the color of her skin and hair, the dress doesn't look too special on top but at the bottom it gets its shine,There were many trends on this red carpet, we seen a lot of black, cream and shiny bright things like Dakota Johnson in Gucci or Jessica Biel in Kaufman Franco and Tiffany & Co. jewelry. It's important for designers to dress the celebrities so the clothes can be showed off to people around the world on tv to show it's luxury and high end.

last night's Grammy Fashion

Last night was the Grammy's and I was shock to see everyone's outfits because half of them looked like they tried to dress themselves without there stylist and either looked way over dressed but in a ugly not a good looking way, or the other people just looked very basic and didn't look like they were ready to walk down the red carpet. Shout out to the few the looked super stunning and ready to flex on the red carpet like, Jennifer LopezHalsey, Camila Cabello and Rick Ross.

My favorite look of the night though would have to go to Rihanna, with the dress she had on looked amazing wearing orange and black which you didn't see many people in those colors at all nor wear them so well. I did not like Don Cheadle outfit at all, he looked so casual, looking like he put that together to go get coffee not walk down the red carpet, I think the men that attend these award shows need to be more fashion forward like most the women  or do something different like CeeLo Green.

Raf Simons

When it comes to Raf he is the god at this fashion stuff, and an inspiration to everyone, I love his style and look because it looks so clean and classic but it's never boring it always looks like something new or never seen before, his new Fall/Winter look with Calvin Klein looks really good and before that he was the head designer of Christian Dior.

McCall Pattern company and home sewing

today I am writing about McCalls pattern company and home sewing. This was formed in 1863. In Manhattan's skyscraper there is a pattern making room, where there are about 80 employees, they create about 700 patterns each year for the company. These patterns have been very popular lately. The brand has pretty cute clothes that one can make. Personally I've never bought my own pattern before, so I don't have a lot of experience, but from what I've heard the brand is good. It allows for you to make your own garments and doesn't allow fast fashion. Fast fashion hurts the environment as well as other peoples lives. For a coming up project we were supposed to bring our own patterns and fabric to make anything we wanted. I bought a romper McCalls pattern, and floral pattern fabric. I am really exited and can't wait to make it. But that is all I have for today. Thank you for reading!

SAG Awards

I think everyone who went to the awards went there to make a statement, if it be through fashion, or through their speeches. Shoutout to David Harbour for his incredible speech and to Winona Rider and her supply of reaction meme faces.

Just gotta say that the entire Orange is the New Black cast who attended looked amazing and awesome. But, I just think that Dascha Polanco looked just especially awesome. I've been really feelin the whole pant suit vibe for award shows or events in general. Plus the all black and the 1920's hair style!!! love.

Dress Out Of Toilet paper

In my fashion design class we were  put into groups to make a complete dress all out of toilet paper. Each group made a complete different design that each person in that group put there own ideas & input into. My group made a women's body suit with straps that go over the shoulders that go down to a deep V-neck, neck line that turn into petals  at the waist line that turn into big roses that get smaller the closer to her crotch area. The body suit is very open and shows a lot of skin but has a lot of detail in it, and would be perfect for the Spring/ Summer time.

I really like the way our design came out, me and my team learned a lot from doing this project. We know what we like and we learned what & how we could improve our design,  and  exactly how we want to improve it by, extending the petals a little bit more so the roses don't start so high up, so when wearing it, it doesn't lose shape in the body figure. Making the top of the dress tighter, to see more of her top figure and extending the petals will make her hips look wider and the roses will grab the attention of your eye's and make her bottom look bigger. We made the design work with ideas from everyone in our group and it looks good and all of it flows.

We had to try different thing and test stuff out so we could get the same vision and get what really works best with combining all our ideas into one. Line gives direction to a design and break larger areas into smaller ones. Lines also create movement in a design, carrying the eye from one area to another, in our project we have Structural Lines and Curved lines on the body suit that create the appearance of fullness.

Why Do I think Color Is Important

I think color is important in fashion because, color is the look, it's what normally grabs your eye because people see the color of your clothes before they see the materials it is made of. When it comes to color you need to make sure it is done right because not just everyone can style an outfit of all one color and even if you can you don't want to do that everyday so you switch it up and add different color's, and the more colors you add to an outfit the more you need to make sure everything is flowing and matches.

What Are Norms ?

If don't know what the norms are you really should, because every work space has norms, and those norm's are the things that you normally do, most, of the time that you are there, everyone has there own part and its what you are normally doing that is the norm. It's important for a group to have norms, like consistency,  and steps you have to follow to keep everyone on track all the time and no one gets lost.

Sustainable Fashion

Sustainable fashion came into the public foray in the late nineteen eighties/early nineties as well known companies such as Patagonia and ESPRIT brought 'sustainability' into their businesses. Also called eco fashion, is a part of the growing design philosophy and trend of sustainability, the goal of which is to create a system which can be supported indefinitely in terms of human impact on the environment and social responsibility. Many of these eco-friendly brands watch the materials they use and is concerted slow fashion, unlike fast brands like H&M, and Forever 21.

Supreme X Nike Air More Tempo ?

It seem this year in 2017 there are a lot of highly-anticipated drops from Supreme, with just last week leaked pictures caused a lot of speculation that a Supreme a Louis Vuitton collaboration will be dropping sometime this year, and now there is more speculation of a new Nike x Supreme shoe, this time collaborating on the Nike Air More Tempo, there are many pics of how the shoe would look like going around, but non of them are official and have not been posted on any social media by Supreme, or Nike. Supreme's and Nike's last shoe together was back in September 2016, when they collaborated on the Nike SB Blazers, which was liked by most fan's, but not so much for these many people are having very mixed opinions on the shoe, what do you think is it a cop or a drop ?

Last night's Golden Globe fashion

Last night at the Golden Globe red carpet, we seen many trends with color and style, one of the trends last night was there were many floral & rose print designs, on dresses and some suits. Some of the trending colors last night was black, white, grey, light pink & yellow. There were a lot of looks I liked a lot but  just to time a few like, Emily Ratajkowski in a very slim open yellow dress by Reem Acra. Sofia Vergara in a shiny gold and silver dress by Zuhair Murad Couture. The couple with the best style of the night would go to Justin Timberlake in a suit by Tom Ford and Jessica Biel in a dress by Elie Saab with a two strap black top and
a very detailed bottom with flowers on it.
