Johnson Wales university ?

Today in fashion Design we had a guest speaker, Mrs.Jill Naughton come in and speak with us about the collage she works for, Johnson & Wales university. I learned a lot today with her coming in speaking with us and I now know how many campuses they have and where all 4 are at in the country. They have 50 different classes you can get a Bachelor's Degree in, everything from Graphic Design Arts, to Fiance & Fashion Merchandising & retail and they have small classes and big classes, there fashion class on the east coast goes to New York all the time and the big trip is to go to Europe. It sounds like a nice school with a lot of big opportunity's and give out scholarships and help students go there for cheaper.

Function or Design

Function or design may ask ? When people come and think of an idea they normally choose if they want that item to be based around an the Function of  it or the Design. When I make something I want it to function right because not it is not what I wanted to make, but what ever I make needs to look good and show me so I also like design, some people get away with just having a good design and something that can't function and others make things that can function with no type of design.

Cyber Monday

CYBER MONDAY!!!! Cyber Monday is a huge online sale. It's like Black Friday just online. Everything online is either 50% off or more, or sometimes less but it's still a sale. I

Black Friday

Black Friday is the day right after Thanksgiving when prices are half off and everyone shops. Black Friday was created so the stock market would shoot up and it obviously makes really good sales and is good for the market. The president at the time, Ulysses Grant, wanted Black Friday to be directed to gold sales and rise. I think Black Friday is a good idea because it does help boost the market and it's beneficial for everyone because everything is cheaper. I personally love it because I get to go to my favorite store and buy anything for half off. Most places I shop at are super expensive so if I get a $60 shirt for $30 I'm honestly happy. Or a $100 jeans for $50 I'm happy. Yes I kind of do believe it is a commercialism monster because some people take Black Friday way too seriously and it has actually costed some people lives. A few dollars off materialistic things are not worth a life! It is ridiculous and saddening that people have actually gotten killed. That is the worst way to do honestly. I do take part in Black Friday but if I don't get something I want it's not that big of a deal I only do it for fun. This picture from Black Friday is crazy.

The 7 Steps of Effective Product Development

Toni Ko came up with this idea of a pencil eyeliner. Although at the time in 1999, they didn't exist. She wanted to pursue in making this product and also to make lip liner. She had borrowed $250,000 from her mom to get the product started. she didn't have any type of experience making makeup but she wanted to do it anyways. The key to selling a product is good, simple packaging so that's what she started to design first. Ko was going to sell her product for $1.49/ $1.99. Toni's first year in business she got $2 million in revenue. Ko also founded NYX cosmetics. NYX cosmetics is now a huge, world wide known makeup company with great, affordable products. The article mentioned that it took eight years for Toni to start selling her products in a big name store like Ulta. This article just gives you an example that you work hard for things you want in life. Hard work will always succeed. If Ko would've never believed in her product and never pursued it we wouldn't have NYX cosmetics today which is a big name brand. You can read the article  of Toni's road to success and also get seven tips on how to pursue your own idea and get a little advice.

SUSTAINABILITY

I think the fashion industry is behind on sustainability because to them no one cares if their products are safe or eco friendly. So until customers start not buying their products because of that reason their not gonna stop making their products that are harsh. The industry doesn't care either, their just trying to make money. The most shocking part of the article to me was the whole thing because I always knew about going vegan or vegetarian to help the animals but I never thought products that companies use were unsafe or bad for the environment. I think certain fashion designers must compromise when it comes to using eco friendly products because once people start to know about it they respect the brand more and makes them want to buy more of that product. Like myself, I only buy vegan, cruelty free makeup. Once I know that a brand is vegan or cruelty free I love that it even more. I think that sustainability in fashion will be solved but it's going to take them time to switch over and adjust. The people need to stop buying their products and start wanting eco friendly products also because the companies won't do it unless the people want it also. Now that I know about this problem I will try to buy clothing that is ethically sourced because I do care about the environment. This is a website that lists brands that are ethically sourced, eco friendly clothing brands.

Bamain's Fashion show

So Balmain just had a fashion show in Paris, and it was amazing, the clothing was really inspiring, with it all flowing together. The clothing remained me of a cross of the movies Avatar meets Star Wars, the clothes look very tribal with the nips free in a few pieces and all were so colorful with bright beautiful colors like green, purple, pinks, gold, silvers and silk black and white.
Whether you're a Balmain fan or not, you have to give Olivier Rousteing credit for consistency. The whole show looked so beautiful with models looking like they had just left a disco in the jungle, but it was done so well with the shining dresses and snakeskin and the open and freeness  of the colthes.

I think the show was great and I think the designer Olivier Rousteing, in an inspiration, just because he made this amazing collection and is so young and has been doing this for a few years.

Who, What, Wear.

The latest collection of Yeezy boots were just released and you can see them on the feet of many inspiring females that love yeezys, like Kyle Jenner,  Hailey Baldwin, and Emily Ratajkowski. The shoe's are not bad but the price tag does come in at a high, these are the most expensive he has priced his shoes at retail.
Both the Yeezy PVC Ankle Boots & Yeezy Mesh Ankle Boots go for ($995) & the Yeezy Women's Military Boots going for ($645) The military Boots look like the other boots Kanye had put out before under his Yeezy line but these ones a bit more ugly, but if they are as weather proof as the yeezy 950's I think they will be worth it.

The night to be someone elsa

Not everybody celebrates Halloween but for the people that do, know that it's all about getting into character to dress up as someone or something else. I still haven't decided on what I want to be this year, but it needs to be something good, since it is my last year in high school & because people at my school know I have had some good costumes in the past.
I think Halloween is a good time for people to really express themselves in a way that wouldn't be acceptable otherwise. People start to act like what they are dressed as and really getting in to character and having fun is what Halloween is all about.

12 & Sewing to Survive

Boys in Turkey, between the ages of 7-15 working in factory.'s, getting paid less than £1 an hour working 7 days a week for 12 hours, instead of going to school. Mothers want there kids to go to school but if they don't send them to work then they won't have money. Only a tiny percentage of the estimated 3 million Syrians who have sought refuge in Turkey have the necessary work permits. To survive, they have to work illegally, without any rights, and for low wages. A made-to-measure workforce for the garment industry, and a reminder that one person's plight is often another's opportunity. Imagine going to a sewing factory, with no air in Syria where the temp goes up and all of the workers are kids that should all be in Elementary or Middle school, instead they are working by folding, sewing, clothes, all day long for the lowest pay.
When the brands are contacted about these boys working in there factories they say,  they regularly inspect the factories making their clothes to guarantee standards. But when the auditors arrive the boys are, hidden out of sight. And when the auditors leave, they go back to work. As simple as that. Some of the brands acknowledge the inherent failings in the auditing process and are now trying to tie up with trade unions and combat abuses.

the Barbican Centre celebrating vulgarity with their new fashion exhibition

Vulgar means lacking in sophistication, or it can also mean coarse and rude. The Barbican’s latest exhibition covers 500 years, from the Renaissance to now, showing visitors couture and ready-to-wear fashion as well as manuscripts, photography and film. What becomes clear from the exhibition is that fashion often breaks with taste to redefine it. Challenging us to reconsider our ideas around taste. It features designers from across the world, including Manolo Blahnik, Christian Dior and Prada. The clothes were really good and I think all the women and clothes had a real boss attitude with it, that turned out great.

Reconstructing yeezys

Creator Zhijun Wang has cut up a couple of Yeezy Boost 350 V2 and transformed it into a face cover. The Beijing-based imaginative proposed to transform one of the current year's most sizzling discharges into this frill in a city where nationals are regularly fighting devastating contamination, yet have an absence of in vogue decisions for veils. Wearable and practical, the architect has started to some degree a pattern with his unmistakable and marginally disputable shoe veils. Tell us in the remarks underneath what you think, and whether you'd cut up your combine to make a veil. Make a beeline for Zhijun Wang's Instagram to take in more.

BAPE once again enlists Coca-Cola for a new co-op project.
Although the pair worked together previously in 2014, the duo reprise their partnership for 2016. An initial teaser image shows the iconic BAPE head design sipping out of a Coca-Cola bottle, much in the way that their first meeting was announced two years ago. The American soft drink giant and the Japanese streetwear first-mover are no stranger to partnerships, as both parties have built up strong collaborative portfolios over the years, including BAPE’s collaboration on an Adidas ClimaCool, and BAPE’s work with Disney. Teamwork

Here are some pro's and con's of working with teams in fashion. Now, to me a lot of these pro's & con's balance each other out put there are probably more pro's, for example you may not always see eye to eye, but then you guys can find something that you all like, and end up with a great design that you all put effort into.
Some more con's are, your group members may not always be motivated or down to work, but someone in your group needs to then take charge and start leading the group because once someone starts leading the group people start following in your path.

Cover Girl's first male ambassador

CoverGirl just announced its first-ever male brand ambassador. beauty vlogger and influencer James Charles. He is an inspiration too many fans of the art of makeup and has over 80,000 subs on YouTube and just under 600k followers on Instagram, with his first post just one year ago on, Thursday, September 3, 2015.
He started all this at 17, and just hit 18 and is now the ambassador of CoverGirl.

This move follows a growing trend of makeup brands relying on men to promote color cosmetics. "My parents started questioning me about whether or not I was transgender — whether or not I was trying to be a woman. It was a big argument," he said. "It took a lot of thorough conversations to explain that it's an art form for me. I'm still confident as a boy and I will always be a boy. I can be confident with bare skin and with a full face." -James Charles.

This is not the new, to see men now and days wear makeup. I would have never thought that a makeup brand would have a male ambassador & being an confluence to so many people on social media. To inspire them to try something new or out of there comfort. I don't know if there is news of straight men doing this, but James says he still wants to be a boy, but he likes the art of makeup.
This is pretty different for me to see, I have seen guys put on and wear make up before at school or in public but I would never think someone would do it has a art form in this way. I am not to surprised tho because  the world is getting more accepting to different groups of people and changing more in recent years, we have seen rappers wear dresses, and men dress like women in movies and on tv,
and hey why not do it because the Native Americans wear war paint on there face, its still makeup.

Jobs in the fashion industry

There are many jobs in the fashion industry, each needing different levels of education. These are the three of  what I think are the best jobs in the industry.\
Being a designer, being a fashion designer takes a lot of school, or knowing the industry, putting there designs on paper and make prototypes. Many people become fashion designers is they, complete an internship and work really hard till they get to the top, but you make also just start making your own clothes and making everything yourself. Fashion designers earn a median salary of $63,670 per year. Salaries typically start from $33,170 and  go up to $125,270.
Being a designer assistant, you really need to know what you are doing, because you work right side the designer and help them with what ever they need. To be able to work as a assistant fashion designer you need to get a degree in fashion design, intern. a lot, have a real passion for your boss. It's a lot of work, but you get a lot out of the job,  As a design assistant, you won't be sketching the next collection, but you will help make sure it comes together. You'll get a firsthand look at fabrics, travel a lot to trade shows, factories, and yes, fashion week. But, you'll spend a lot of that time putting in long hours of work: fitting models, tracking samples, and making sure the show or presentation goes on as smoothly as possible. They get paid about  $42,000.
Creative director, Earn a Bachelor's Degree. Creative directors must use their knowledge of art and marketing to develop a consistent brand image for a company, Obtain a Graduate Degree, be able to see what is trending before it happens, that means shop for winter style in summer and sun wear in January. Creative directors get paid from $42,758 - $162,857 dollars.

Chanel’s Spring 2017 Show

Chanel's Spring 2017 show was very Hip-hop inspired (That looked good) with the run-way not looking as great, themed after computers, with giant computer processors all around the Grand Palais. The show definitely felt that it was intended to bring the brand to a younger audience, with the Hip-hop/Pop-star inspired wear of the show. It makes me think that they were trying to the same thing with the computer part, it it kinda killed it. The show would have looked better if they stuck more with the hip-hop vibe by, making the run-way more street as if the models were walk down Hollywood blvd, or if it was a regular walk way since the clothes popped so much. Chanel's robot attempt looked like it was inspired by a mix of Lady Gaga meets Daft punk, with the walk way looking like a scene from Mr. Robot. The clothes of the show were very good tho, with colors popping but looking a classy at the same time

what I have learned about sewing, both by machine and by hand

The things I have learned about sewing so far in my fashion design class is that it is way harder then I thought it would be. There is a lot of re doing  the things you just did if it is not good enough, or if it is really bad you will have to start over. You must be paying a lot of attention because if not, the stitching will not come out the right way or you can sow your finger if not focused and paying attention to every thing.
After spending a few week learning how to sow by hand and by machine I can really see how much time it takes to make a garment, it makes me respect people in the fashion industry more because it shows me that they spend so much time on a single item and to get it 100% right with not a single mistake, that really tells me how fashion is an art.

Vlone in Italy

A$AP Bari recently took his VLONE label to Italy’s city of Milan to hold a pop-up event at the popular streetwear shop, Slam Jam. This is the 3rd pop-up event with his label, with the 2nd being the VLONE X Off-White, in France where Bari, Ian Connor & theophilus london all broke the internet, and the 1st being in Los Angeles, CA.
This time looks a bit like the first pop up event, with all the art on the walls but with a little darker prospective. News paper covering the walls, with pictures of crosses & Christ painted in black on the walls with, a lot of graffiti in, Italian which translate to “live alone, die alone,” .
The Madonna statues, meanwhile, were created by artist Andrea “FACE” Facelli.
As for the products, a lot of the pieces from the brand’s Los Angeles, skater pop up shop were available, with the same screen prints, on different color & sleeved shirts.
The event will run from Tuesday, September 20 to Sunday, September 25 at:
SlamJam
Address: Via Pasquale Paoli, 3, 20143 Milano, Italy

The Fashion in Harry Potter

The 7 part film 'Harry Potter' may have a lot do with fashion then you ever thought of. In the film the characters have very detailed clothing, with some of the clothing being all by hand. In one of the scenes of the film, were when Hermione, takes a, Pink, Yule Ball dress designed by Jany Temime, making, Ron jealous.
Another moment that showed the film had many beautiful designs, was when Luna Lovegood wore her spangled dress, looking like a sprinkling Christmas tree, with sparkling star earrings, looking like she could have just walked off a haute couture runway, in Paris.
Some how the design team even did a great job with the detail of the designs on the robes and uniforms.

Red Carpet

On the night of TV’s biggest awards, the men had it easy since they only wore tuxes  in black, white (and, occasionally, navy) tuxes hauled out for an evening. The women on the other hand, dressing up a lot more. We seen a lot of women wearing the same colors like, Red, Green, Yellow, Black, and Dark Blue.
http://www.nytimes.com/
Kristen Bell, a presenter for the evening, not following any trends and taking a floral, crystal-embroidered gown by the Lebanese couturier Zuhair Murad. Everyone was dressed up and looked good, but only few people did it so well, just to name a few, Kerry Washington looking while pregnant,  Laverne Cox wearing Naeem Khan, and Yara Shahidi.

Whats been happening the last few days with street wear & fashion

Starting off NYFW F/W, Kanye West showed off his new Yeezy Season 4 line. This year being more exclusive to Tidal & to have been there you had to get an invite, those that got invited met up, and had to take a bus to a 'private' location. Later it was shown that the show was  at Roosevelt Island, New York, Wednesday, Sept 7, 2016.
All the models dressed in (all dressed in nude-colored undergarments) all the the undergarments looked the same as the past seasons, just in different tones and colors, though there were many nice jackets and pieces in this season, also showing off some new yeezys, never seen before. Though the weather was not in Kanye's favor, because  it was 90°s weather and the models were hot from standing in the sun for so long, with bad pay.
On the topic of Kanye West, the Yeezy Boost 350 V2's are set to release on September 24, 2017
Adidas Originals confirming that here: https://twitter.com/adidasoriginals.

Alexander Wang debuts partnership with Adidas OriginalsWang is the latest addition to adidas‘s growinghype of designer collaborators, which includes Stella McCartney, Raf Simons, Rick Owens, Yohji Yamamoto and Kanye West. This line sold on September, 11, 2016. Iteams were sold for prices ranging from  $80 USD to $200 USD for tees and hoodies, a lot of them looking like regular Adidas clothing, with there logo flipped upside down, and a all black sweater that Supreme has already done before, but the branding turned upside down, and the shoes just looked like some Pumas.

Will there be more diversity on the runway ?

We our seeing more and more diversity on the run ways with models & fashion industry to prove that, watch this video of a, 19 year old acid attack survivor, Reshma Quereshi who is now on the run ways of  a show in New York Fashion week (http://www.reuters.com/article/us-fashion-new-york-acidsurvivor-idUSKCN11E2SQ)
http://www.reuters.com/
This is a very sad story how a 19 year old girl got attacked, but it's more inspiring. Reshma Quereshi has came along way, from here country across the world to New York fashion week, this story really shows how much the fashion industry is really oping up more and more just in recent years we seen more black models, and really more diversity in the fashion industry.

http://www.highsnobiety.com/
Just a few years ago almost all models were European and even before that they almost all had blond hair, with blue eye's. Yes there has been improvement, but there is still a lot of room for more. I think the runway at NYFW is a good place to bring awareness to global problems because New York is one of the more diverse cites in the world, that way more people can see whats going on to different kinds of people from different parts of the world

What is a fashion classic?

A classic is a style that stays in fashion for a long time. For example a simple pullover sweater and tailored shirt are classics. Some other items that are classics are, blue jeans, polo shirts and  business suits.
colors and fabrics also become classics. Linen, crepe, velvet, seersucker, suede, and corduroy  rarely go out of fashion. Plaids, dots, stripes, and checks, are classic design patterns. All of these designs might go away for a while but never for too long because these designs are timeless and almost always look great. An example of one of these trends are overalls

What "Needs" do you think Haute Couture satisfies?

The "need" Haute Couture satisfies, is the need to spend 1,000's of dollars on a clothing item for the same thing a plain old Gildan shirt will do for you.
Some of these needs are, Self-Actualization ,Esteem, Love and Acceptance, Safety and Security, Physical Needs.
Haute couture meets the need of those wealthy and demanding something unique and different from the average Joe, but all of these needs are satisfied by wearing any clothes so there really is no "need" for Haute Couture, if you're rich or poor, it's more of a hobby then a need.

Is true Haute Couture a dying art?

Many people use the word haute couture wrong or advertise there clothing wrong saying it is a couture piece, but for this to be true it needs to be done 100 percent by hand and some other requirements
the fashion houses must meet to have the title, you can check out my post listing out those requirments and more about haute couture here http://zaygoodie.blogspot.com/2016/08/haute-couture.html .
Is this the death of haute couture coming ? Haute couture is a very talented technique, that requires a lot of time and skill, since every detail is all by hand and not by a machine , but it seems that every other year we lose another fashion haute couture house. Just a few years a ago we had a lot of couture houses and it seems most of the fashion houses doing it went away. But there are still big names that still do this, just to name a few big fashion houses like Christian Dior, Chanel, and Valentino.
Haute couture is still alive and kicking. Every year there are Haute couture shows, in Paris and it brings the biggest crowds and the biggest pockets!
Why Haute couture wont die. One of a kindBrings in huge revenue Tradition Long Live HAUTE COUTURE. Haute couture isn't dying out anytime soon, especially when we have so many young designers racing for top Couturier. We've seen huge improvements in the couture world and it's not stopping.

What will Kanye bring with Yeezy season 4?

The Summer has now ended but the best season of the year is coming up again and it's Yeezy season. The only things we know for sure about Yeezy season 4 is that it will be showed off at Madison Square Gardens, like Yeezy season 3 back in February of this year, the whole show is supposed to be live streamed on the T.V. program E!,it is not yet confirmed if the show will be in the theaters like the last season, but we do expect Mr. Kanye West to do something big.
The exact day has not yet been announced but the show will happen some day of the first week of New York fashion week.

Questions that many people have on there minds are, what surprised guest will participate in the 4th show, last year Kanye came out with a number of celebrate friends with him, both modeling and or just viewing his show, names like Young Thug, Ian Connor, Lil Yachty were modeling for Ye in season 3 & names like the Kardashians/Jenners, Kid Cudi & Pusha T were viewing the show, playing unreleased music.

Will we be getting any more of the most hyped up shoes on the planet ? The Yeezys. Lately Kanye West has been seen around wearing a pair of unreleased yeezys, he first showed off around Yeezy season 3, but this time in 2 new color ways, the name of these shoes are not officially named but they go by the name yeezy 550's or yeezy 350v2's But more then the clothes will Kanye do this time around, will the show be bigger then the huge Yeezy season 3 show?

Haute Couture

What is the 'true' definition of "Haute Couture?" Haute Couture is the designing and making of high-quality fashionable clothes by leading fashion houses. For a fashion house to be considered a Haute Couture, the fashion house must meet the four criteria

Design made-to-order for private clients, with one or more fittings.
Have a workshop (atelier) in Paris that employs at least 15 staff members full-time.
Must have 20, full-time technical people in at least one workshop (atelier).
Every season, present a collection of at least 50 original designs to the public, both day and evening garments, in January and July of each year

Based on these four criteria, it’s easy to see that having the label "Haute Couture" on your fashion house is not easy, it also does not help that most fashion houses spend anywhere from 100 to 700 hours to create one couture dress.

Due to the insane amount of time a fashion house puts into creating a haute couture piece, it should come as no surprise that a garment like that is going to cost you a hell of a lot of money. The cheapest of couture pieces will cost you $10,000, but evening gowns start at $60,000 and can cost upwards of $100,000.
With a price tag like that, the market for haute couture isn’t that big. It is reported that about 2,000 women worldwide purchase haute couture and of those 2,000, only 200 are regular buyers.
Now that you know all about haute couture, you’ll have people thinking you’re one of the fashion experts!

In your opinion, does wearing school uniforms increase learning? reduce violence? reduce stereotyping and prejudice? Support your answer with specific examples.

Wearing a school uniform does not effect the education you get at all, but it can reduce violence especially in a area where gangs are a problem, wearing gang colors in there territory is not a good idea, so schools do not want these problems so they will probably make those color's band like red or blue. A uniform can also reduce stereotyping & prejudice, some people will take one look at you and think they have your whole life figured out, when they really just misread the message you wanted to give off with your clothing, most of the time you wear a uniforms it's one group of people wearing the same simple outfit to all look alike, and helps stop people from prejudging you.

What messages do you think you send through your clothing? What about other people? What messages do you think they send through the clothes they wear?

The message I think I send with my clothing, is that i'm stylish, with my own swag. One of the first things I notice when I see someone ( especially for the first time) is what they are wearing, that can tell me if  a person just doesn't care about how they carry them self's, or are confident
about them self's. Also some people want to start dressing differently, but when they do so they just go on a huge shopping spree, spending a bunch of money on expensive random clothing pieces & still don't now how to really put them together, a lot of people see something off of tumblr & do stuff like this because it's trendy. I don't ever judge what people wear, nor do I really care but I do think people should dress for the right occasion, Dress up for a wedding, job interview, or eating at a restaurant & even when the weather changes, layer up in the Spring/Winter seasons, and wear a crop top or T-shirt in the Summer/Fall seasons, but now matter what you put on do go about your day in, you should always be 100% comfortable.

Why did you choose to study fashion? What do you hope to learn by taking a fashion class?

I choose to study and take a fashion class because I like fashion and I want to know more about it. I hope after school I can become a personal stylist, or a fashion designer. I really needed to take this class because you can not get in to the fashion industry with out any experience at all, so I hope by taking this class I can learn a lot more about it, and make my own clothes by hand, not just knowing how to design them. I hope to be able to learn how to, stich, sow, learn about the materials & learn how to design better on Adobe Illustrator.

Paris Fashion Week X Ian ConnorI want to see how this class goes this year & maybe next year when I go to collage I will take another fashion class. I want have my own fashion brand but first I need to know more about fashion, and how to make the clothes, not just designing them. When I was younger I was a really big fan of art, paintings, sketches, etc  & the older I got the more I was able to see fashion is the highest form of art, it's not a painting that sits 24/7 in a hall to cover up a blank wall, it's art you can actually wear. One of the people that inspired me to push into the world of fashion is, Ian Connor who made a name for himself in the fashion industry, by buying & wearing clothes he likes to, making clothes he likes, he has also worked with big names like, Kanye West, Kyle Jenner to Wiz Khalifa
